We have recently run a pilot for this club, for disabled young people aged 9 – 18, and have received further funding for a year from Short Breaks. It is for young people to meet up with mates, and make new ones, hang out, play table tennis, pool, Wii, and loads of other games, or just chill out, have a drink at the juice bar and chat. We also hope to run special projects that young people can choose to take part in, if its there thing. If the members want, we can still open the monthly discos that were run in the pilot project. These were open for disabled young people who didnt attend the centre, but who could attend with their own support, as well as family members and friends.
For the pilot project we ran a Dance Academy where young people tried out different styles of dancing, and got to have a rave once a month. Wacky Remel (MTV Base ) Danny Francis (Break Dancing), Danny Hughes (Street), Afro-Peru (Zamba), and Vee (Electro) were some of the people who led dance sessions and performed. See the video to see what a great success it was.
